CALL YOUR MOTHER DELI

THE RISE OF THE MOCKTAIL
Non-alcoholic beers and beverages are making their way into the mainstream, with Gen Z and millennials driving the rapidly expanding sector. As alcohol consumption declines, the popularity of mocktails has soared over the past five years according to research from NielsenIQ. Wellness culture and decreased interest in alcohol have led to the growth of non-alcoholic drinks. Athletic Brewing saw a greater than 13,0000% increase in revenue from its launch in 2018 to 2022. Mocktails and other alcoholic alternatives are more than just a passing fad, statistics show that the sector is expected to continue growing to $30 billion in 2025.
DC Brau will be the first DC brewery to sell a canned non-alcoholic beer, launching a pale ale in late April 2024. This will allow DC Brau to expand their market in Maryland and other areas with restrictive liquor laws. The DC brewery will focus on the pale ale this year but already has plans for a non-alcoholic pilsner and IPA in 2025.
CONCHAS AT LOCAL MEXICAN BAKERY
Panaderia Mi Pueblo, a small hidden bakery in Alexandria, VA serves customers looking for a taste of authentic Mexican culture. The family-owned business provides quality sweet breads, known as concha’s, to a loyal clientele who crave the traditional pastries. Conchas have gained popularity outside of Mexico in part because of a “concha bun burger” that won the James Beard Foundation’s Blended Burger Project in 2016.
