FAIRFAX CONNECTOR STRIKE
After a 15-day labor strike with intense negotiations, Fairfax Connector workers ratified a new contract with bus operator Transdev. The work stoppage, which began on February 22, was due to on-going disputes over wages, work conditions, and retirement security. The deadlock affected tens of thousands of daily riders who rely on the bus service across the region. The new contract, which was ratified on March 6th addresses workers’ concerns to ensure competitive wages and improved job security. The strike highlighted the importance of public transportation workers and the community’s dependence on reliable service. FEDERAL FUNDING FOR DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
On February 15th, U.S Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner announced $35 million in federal funding for expansion and improvements of Dulles International Airport. The funding was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, which will improve air travels, roads, bridges, rail, and water infrastructure. The funding will be used to build a new concourse by meeting rapidly increasing flight demands while focusing on safety and improved travel for passengers.
