MOMS DEMAND ACTION
On February 26th, a group of concerned citizens gathered to voice their opinions about gun control by writing postcards to Governor Glen Younkin. The Moms Demand Action group leads this campaign to encourage the governor to pass gun safety bills that are moving through the Virginia General Assembly this session.
LAND DAY 2024
On March 30th, protestors in Washington DC joined a worldwide movement in solidarity with Palestine, calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Land Day, which began in 1976, commemorates a day of deadly Palestinian protests against land confiscation by Israel, and rejuvenates the Palestinian spirit of revolution. This year’s anniversary was particularly tumultuous as Israel has launched its most aggressive genocide against Palestinians to date. Protests in the United States called out the major role the country has had in supplying weapons and aid to Israel. The growing unrest has played an unexpected role in the upcoming presidential campaign, causing President Biden to increase pressure on Israel to find a diplomatic solution.
PROTESTS AT THE SUPREME COURT
Protestors gathered outside the Supreme Court on April 25th as arguments continued in the landmark case on whether Donald Trump should receive immunity for official actions took while he was in the White House. A spokesperson from the Women’s March organization said that their presence was to implore the justices to reject the former president’s immunity claim, saying “Trump engaged in flat-out fascist efforts to reverse the results of the presidential election, and if the Supreme Court grants him immunity, it will only embolden him and his Project 2025 plan to undermine our democracy even further.”
